Rylan French

From the moment she arrived on New Year’s Day in 2013—the first baby born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia—Rylan Alexa French brought light, laughter, and love into the world. Her energy, humor, and kindness made an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew her.

Rylan was the cherished daughter of Taylor and Katie French, and the beloved big sister to Kora, Addison, and Eli. She shared a special bond with her loyal dog, Honey, who rarely left her side and was always ready to nap with her, comfort her, and watch over her.

A Passion for Sports

Rylan discovered a natural talent for softball, thriving as a first baseman with a powerful swing. Her dedication to the game carried her to all-star teams, and in a moment that filled her with pride, she signed a letter of commitment to join the UVA softball team. The players and coaches welcomed her as family—inviting her to games, cheering her on through treatments, and reserving a jersey and locker in her honor. She always chose number 35, paying tribute to her late Uncle Brandon.

Creativity and Curiosity

Off the field Rylan was curious and creative. She loved experimenting with skincare and makeup, drawing inspiration from her favorite “Get Ready With Me” YouTubers. Music was another passion, with artists like Zach Bryan, Chris Stapleton, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, and Morgan Wallen filling her playlists. Attending Morgan Wallen’s concert in Pittsburgh—her very first concert—was a dream come true. She also cherished attending her last concert, Chris Stapleton. It was a night filled with lots of singing, joy and was a wonderful moment that her family was able to share with her. Rylan also had a gift for writing and drawing, pouring her thoughts and imagination onto paper with heart and depth.

A Heart Full of Joy

Rylan’s wit and charm brought joy to friends and adults alike. She had an extraordinary way of making each person feel like her best friend, always listening deeply and sharing a kind word or a clever joke. Though quiet at times, she loved to be silly and sarcastic, bringing laughter and light to every room she entered.

Her Enduring Legacy

Rylan’s time here was far too short, but her life was filled with love, joy, and purpose. Her legacy lives on in the memories she created, the friendships she nurtured, and the love she shared so generously.

“She’s sliding into heaven now and she is as safe as she’ll ever be.”
